Music Academy International is looking for a scheduler for its summer 2016 edition.

Opening: Scheduler
Music Academy International is a U.S. non-profit that produces every year an advanced music summer program taking place in Italy - in the wonderful valley of Primero in the Dolomites mountains. The Academy summer term spans for 6 weeks between the end of June and the beginning of August, and it includes 5 programs: Opera Performance, Chamber Music and Piano Performance, Music Theatre, Festival Orchestra and Suzuki Institute. You can find more information on Music Academy International and the 2016 edition on our website at http://musicacademyinternational.org.
Music Academy International is currently recruiting for a Scheduler for the Opera Performance and the Chamber Music and Piano Performance programs.
The person in this is demanding position that will be in charge of collecting information from the Opera Performance faculty and put together the schedule of the Opera Performance Program, which will include individual coachings, masterclasses, teaching sessions and rehearsals for three or more staged productions; this year performances will include fully staged productions of L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Cosi Fan Tutte, a staged concert version of Carmen and at least one large Opera Gala. We expect to have about 40 singers for this program; productions are usually double cast and scheduling requires great attention to details in order to carefully build a daily plan avoiding conflicts and maintaining the appropriate breaks for everyone.
The scheduler will similarly collect information from the Chamber Music and Piano Performance Program coordinator and will put together the daily and/or weekly schedule for this program. In the Chamber Music and Piano Performance program the scheduler will have to fit the various chamber ensembles to the availability of the faculty that need to see them, again avoiding conflicts.
This is a demanding position, but it can also be very rewarding. You need to be experienced in scheduling, understanding the needs of opera singers and production as well as chamber music; a stage management background would be helpful. You need to be able to think on your feet and work in stressful situations, not being afraid of getting your hands dirty. It is essential to know how to deal with wonderful but at times demanding artists and personalities.
The Academy is fully run in English, while being at home in Italy, so limited or no knowledge of Italian will not be a problem. You’ll likely pick up and practice some Italian at the local café.
Housing is provided in single room with shared bathroom and kitchen with one or more other members of staff, in the beautiful Italian Dolomites within walking distance to the office/rehearsal spaces. Our faculty is made of internationally recognized musicians and stage directors, and you’ll be part of making this a great experience for young and upcoming singers and instrumentalists. The town that hosts us loves the festival and its young artists and you’ll likely be invited to town fairs and evenings out in the mountains.
Salary is based on experience, and some travel reimbursement will be provided.
The calendar is being finalized but start date is July 10th and check out day is August 6th – the scheduler could be released about one week early, around July 31st.
If you are interested please send me your CV as soon as possible at Maddalena@musicacademyinternational.org and feel free to ask any questions on this position.
